Machine configuration

Water Filler PLC and Electrical Specification for Procurement

Specify the delivered controls and handover information, not just a PLC brand. A useful electrical proposal identifies components, power requirements, operator functions, external interfaces and the files needed to maintain the machine. No component brand is promised until it appears in the project proposal.

01

Identify the proposed hardware

Request the controller, HMI, drives, sensors and major switching-device model references, together with approved substitution rules. Require the buyer's available supply to be checked against the proposed equipment; electrical design and installation must be handled by qualified personnel.

  • Supply voltage, phases and frequency
  • Normal/maximum demand stated on a defined basis
  • Component models and revision-controlled drawings
02

Describe operating and diagnostic functions

Ask for the operator screen language, format recipes, parameter permissions and alarm history to be demonstrated. A touchscreen photograph does not establish that settings can be recovered or faults diagnosed after handover.

  • Alarm identifier and explanatory message
  • Recipe backup and recovery responsibility
  • Role-based parameter access and change record
03

Document external interfaces

List every exchanged signal or network connection and identify who supplies cabling, software and commissioning. Remote support should have an agreed authorization process and owner; do not assume unrestricted permanent remote access is necessary.

  • Signal list and protocol/version where used
  • Communications-loss and restart behavior
  • Buyer-controlled remote-support arrangements
04

Make software handover an acceptance item

Agree the permitted backups, editable files, licences, access rights and restore instructions before purchase. At handover, confirm that delivered files correspond to the installed revisions. Demonstrate restore readiness in a controlled procedure without risking production equipment.

  • PLC/HMI/drive backup register
  • As-built electrical drawings and I/O list
  • Licence and access limitations recorded explicitly

Questions and answers

Does a well-known PLC brand guarantee maintainability?

It does not replace exact model identification, available support, as-built drawings, backups, access rights and trained maintenance personnel.

Should the supplier provide program backups?

Agree the deliverable, permitted use, format, revision and restore process in the purchase scope. Do not assume source access or licences are included.

Who approves a component substitution?

Name the buyer's approval owner and require the supplier to document the substitute, compatibility impact and revised spare-part information.
