Water Bottle Capping System: Compatibility and Acceptance

Specify the bottle and closure as one approved pair. A supplier should confirm cap handling, application method, change parts and inspection against that pair before offering a capping configuration. “Suitable for screw caps” leaves too many details unresolved for a purchase decision.

01

Freeze the closure specification

Supply controlled bottle-neck and cap drawings, material and sample references, including the tamper-evident features and liner where used. For tethered or unusual closures, require a specific handling review instead of assuming compatibility with a standard chuck.

  • Drawing revisions for bottle and cap
  • Cap dimensions, thread and tamper-band details
  • Approved samples from intended production supply
02

Clarify what is in the capping scope

Separate cap storage, elevation, orientation, chute, application heads and inspection. Ask which components are included, optional or supplied by the buyer, and how caps are protected and accessed for cleaning or service.

  • Chuck or application-head identification
  • Bottle restraint and handling parts
  • Missing-cap and incorrect-application response
03

Write the closure acceptance method

Agree cap application checks, removal-torque measurements where relevant, tamper-band condition and leak-test method with the closure supplier and buyer quality team. Do not copy one torque figure to every bottle-cap combination.

  • Instrument, sample conditioning and measurement time
  • Approved limits and treatment of failed samples
  • Results tied to bottle/cap lots and machine settings
04

Test every contracted closure route

Demonstrate the reference combination and any agreed alternatives, including change parts and controlled stop/restart behavior. Record cross-threaded, missing, damaged or visibly misapplied closures separately. Resolve these findings before accepting the configuration.

  • Keep a closure defect log and representative samples.
  • List any format still awaiting validation.

Questions and answers

Is the capper included in a 3-in-1 machine price?

A 3-in-1 proposal normally describes a rinsing, filling and capping center, but cap feed accessories, inspection and change parts still need an explicit quotation boundary.

Can I use a different cap supplier later?

A replacement cap needs a compatibility review and trial. Matching nominal diameter does not establish identical thread, material, tamper-band or handling behavior.

Does one acceptable torque reading prove a good seal?

It does not replace the agreed sealing, leak and tamper-band checks. Record the relevant results separately.
