Water Filling Machine Cleaning: Questions Before Purchase

A supplier should explain how the proposed filling machine can be cleaned, inspected and returned to service under your site's approved process. Ask for machine-specific instructions and responsibility boundaries. This page does not prescribe chemical concentrations, temperatures or a validated sanitation cycle.

01

Assign process and equipment responsibilities

Have the buyer's qualified process/quality team define the required hygienic outcome. Ask the machine supplier which cleaning arrangements are included and which upstream systems, chemicals, utilities and validation activities are outside its supply.

  • Product and cleaning conditions supplied for review
  • Machine-only versus connected-pipework boundary
  • Procedure owner and approval authority
02

Review the actual product paths

Request drawings and an explanation of accessible surfaces, dismantling tasks, return connections and drainage. Ask which parts are cleaned in place, which require removal, and how correct reassembly is checked under the supplier's instructions.

  • Valve, tank, hose and seal access
  • Cleaning return and drain points
  • Inspection points and retained-liquid concerns
03

Separate mechanical checks from process validation

FAT can document the installed cleaning connections, sequence functions and agreed observations. It cannot automatically establish the buyer site's microbiological outcome. Record what was tested, under which conditions, and what remains for site validation.

  • Test procedure and supplied medium
  • Instrument/sequence observations
  • Deferred validation tasks and owners
04

Request an operating handover package

The final package should include approved instructions, required competence, compatible materials, consumable identification and records for completed cleaning. Have qualified personnel address isolation and chemical-handling risks in the relevant procedures.

  • Machine-specific cleaning and reassembly instructions
  • Approved consumables and maintenance references
  • Deviation and release-to-production records

Questions and answers

Does a CIP connection prove that the machine is hygienically validated?

No. It identifies an equipment feature. The complete circuit, procedure and required outcome still need an agreed assessment and validation.

Can I copy another plant's sanitation settings?

Do not assume transferability. The responsible quality/process team should validate conditions for the actual product, equipment, materials and site.

What can a supplier demonstrate before shipment?

The installed arrangement, access, specified connections and agreed functional checks, while explicitly listing site-dependent validation and operating responsibilities.
